Charles K. Zamek, a West Bloomfield resident, long-time Waterford volunteer firefighter and fulltime insurance agent, is dead at 93, the Waterford Regional Fire Department posted to their Facebook page on Friday.

Zamek died on Wednesday and is survived by his wife, Lois, and his children, Rabbi Stanton (Rabbi Martha Bergadine) and Rachel (Matthew) Cornell, as well as his grandchildren, Rachamim and Ayelet Zamek.

He also had a brother, the late David Zamek, and his parents were the late Sylvia and Abraham Zamek.

The funeral was officiated by Rabbi Daniel B. Syme at a private graveside service on Sunday.

Zamek, who was Jewish, will be remembered by friends and family by sitting shiva.

“He will be missed by all who ever had the pleasure pleasure of knowing him,” the Waterford fire department wrote on Facebook.

“I first met Mr. Zamek in the late 60’s early 70’s as a Police Cadet! And then knew him for my rest of my career! A true institution and representative of Waterford Fire! R.I.P. sir you will always have my fondest respect!” wrote John Dean, a retired police chief.

“Prayers to Lt. Zamek’s family and colleagues. He was a great mentor, I’m proud to have served on the volunteer fire department with him,” wrote Steven Pearce, a paramedic.

Those who wish to honor Zamek’s memory can send a donation to either the Pontiac Civitan Club of Michigan, located at 192 Gage St. in Pontiac or Temple Beth El, located at 7400 Telegraph Road in Bloomfield Hills.
