COVID-19 outbreaks in Oakland County schools remained identical to the previous week, while the number of outbreak cases at Michigan schools nearly doubled.

For the week of Sept. 7-11, Oakland County schools had just three outbreaks with a dozen cases, according to the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services information which was updated on Monday. The previous week there three outbreaks with nine cases.

Cases statewide soared from 180 the previous week to 342 new cases with 71 outbreaks.

Schools in Oakland County with new outbreaks were Walled Lake Western (two among students), Cranbrook (two administrative) and Avondale GATE Magnet School (eight among students).

An outbreak, as defined by the state, is two or more cases that have shared exposure on school grounds and are from different households.

Three Oakland County schools continue with ongoing outbreaks: Avondale High School (4 cases), Bloomfield Hills Marian High School (3 cases) and Troy High School (2 cases).

Ongoing outbreaks are those that had already been identified in previ

ous weeks but have had at least one new associated case reported to the local health department in the last 28 days. Outbreaks will be removed from the list when there are no new confirmed or probable COVID-19 cases identified after 28 days have passed since the last known school exposure from a case.

Case counts for schoolrelated outbreaks include those associated with beforeand after-school programs (including school-sponsored sports). When applicable, outbreak reporting also includes cases originating from on-campus and offcampus student housing.

In other outbreak news, in region 2N which includes Oakland, Macomb and St. Clair counties, this week there were nine new outbreaks which is down from 12 last week. Three outbreaks were reported in assisted living/adult day care. In K-12 before/ after school programs there were four outbreaks, along with one each from religious services and outdoor community exposure.
