Lake Orion boys win Averill Invite

A recap of high school sporting events reported to The Oakland Press this weekend:

LAKE ORION WINS AVERILL INVITE

The Lake Orion boys cross country team won the Averill Invitation­al title on Saturday at Kensington Metropark.

The Dragons scored 41 for first, while Brighton was second with 51. Milford placed third (106), while Detroit Catholic Central was fourth (112).

Clayton Kuiper (16:44.0) led Lake Orion with a second-place finish, while Hong Bing Tang (16:46.0) placed third. Will Houvener finished eighth (16:58.9), and Adam Hafeli was ninth (17:07.2).

Walled Lake Central’s Nicholas Negru placed fifth (16:56.2). Milford’s Easton Williams was sixth (16:57.5), while Ryan O’Rourke was seventh (16:57.6).

GIRLS CROSS COUNTRY

MILFORD TAKES THIRD

The Milford girls cross country team placed third at the Averill Invitation­al on Saturday with 97 points.

Brighton finished first with 48, while Grand Ledge was second with 79, and Troy took fourth with 107.

Jacie Remtema placed third (20:31.7) to lead the Mavericks, while Grace Harkenride­r placed fourth (20:34.4).

Amanda Soldan of Adams finished sixth (20:43.2), while Bloomfield Hills’ Kate Jenkins finished seventh (20:46.1), and Troy’s Maisie Konwinski finished ninth (20:52.5).

SOUTH LYON 44, WL CENTRAL 7

The South Lyon football team rolled to a 44-7 win over Walled Lake Central on Friday.

The Lions (3-0) finished with 422 total yards of offense, including 295 rushing yards.

Tommy Donovan rushed for 93 yards and two scores, while Collin Goins and Dakota Blackwell each had over 70 yards and a score.

Dawson Skupin threw for 127 yards and a score.

BRANDON 48, LAKE FENTON 40

Ortonville Brandon improved to 3-0 on the season Friday with a 48-40 win over Lake Fenton.

Dylan Dickens rushed for

351 yards and three touchdowns on 40 carries. He also had 23 receiving yards with a TD and threw a TD pass.

Mike Bolan had two sacks and eight tackles to lead the defense, while Gio Akrawi had 10 tackles.

ND PREP 23, LOYOLA 8

Pontiac Notre Dame Prep defeated Detroit Loyola on Friday, 23-8, to move to 3-0

on the season.

Alex Scherle and Evan Noga combined for 10 sacks to lead the defense, while Johnny Dreer had eight tackles and an INT for a touchdown.

Evan McGhee led the offense with 105 rushing yards, while Jacob Tuttle threw for 108 yards and two scores. Billy Newman caught four passes for 75 yards and a TD.

VOLLEYBALL ND PREP STAYS UNBEATEN

The Notre Dame Prep volleyball improved to 26-0 on the season with a perfect run through the Lakeview Tournament on Saturday.

The Irish bested Vicksburg (25-10, 25-9), Battle Creek St. Phillip (25-11, 2517), Kalamazoo Central (2511, 25-9), Cadillac (25-12, 259), Lakeview (25-21, 30-28) and Portage Northern (2624, 25-14).
