Kosmo’s football predictions for Week 4

-

There’s still a lot of football season left, but it feels like we’ve experienced a lot in the first three weeks.

There are some great storylines developing as well, with a handful of teams surpassing success they haven’t had in many years.

Some teams are struggling to get out the starting blocks. Whether it be tough scheduling, or just inexperienced players, some proud programs find themselves with their backs against the wall in Week 4.

Either way, Week 4 features a lot of primetime matchups between county teams. Wherever you find yourself this weekend, it should be some good action.

Let’s get to the picks.

FRIDAY

Detroit Country Day at South Lyon: This should be a great game between two of the county’s best. Country Day has shown a vastly improved offense to go with an already stingy defense. That defense will be tested by an athletic South Lyon squad. Can the Lions match DCD’s physicality up front? That will be the big question.

Kosmo Says: Country Day

Southfield A&T at Clarkston: The Wolves have been impressive offensively, both in the air and on the ground. Southfield has looked great since a loss to Cass Tech. This is a big opportunity for the Warriors to prove they can be in the D1 mix. Kosmo expects them to give the Wolves a great game, but Clarkston will find a way to win in the end.

Kosmo Says: Clarkston

Waterford Mott at Lakeland: Both teams are 3-0 and this is a key game in the Lakes Valley Conference race. The Eagles were off last week, which could cause some execution issues. Mott has some explosive playmakers and has been improving. In a game of two great quarterbacks, Kosmo is going with the more veteran of the two.

Kosmo Says: Lakeland

North Farmington at Oak Park: The

Raiders have been as impressive as anyone thus far, but this will be their biggest test yet. Oak Park has played three tremendous teams and this will be no different. Can the Knights learn from their previous losses? Kosmo Says: North Farmington

Rochester at Rochester Adams: Adams has looked like the top team in Rochester thus far, and one of the best in the state.

The Falcons are a tough squad, but the Highlanders are playing on another level.

Kosmo Says: Adams

Stoney Creek at West Bloomfield: The Cougars struggled to stop the run last week and will be tested heavily again this week. The Lakers aren’t playing their best yet, but still have the talent to be great.

Kosmo Says: West Bloomfield

Oxford at Lake Orion: Oxford hasn’t been cut much of a break in competition, but the Wildcats have certainly been a tough out. The Dragons have lost back-to-back games and need to get back on track. Kosmo has to go with Lake Orion at home in a thriller. Kosmo Says: Lake Orion

Birmingham Groves at Birmingham

Seaholm: The rivalry game that both teams circle comes early this season. This year, the game is very important as both teams are off to 0-3starts. Groves has struggled to find an offense against tough competition. Seaholm has struggled to make key stops. In this one, Kosmo has to give the edge to the home team.

Kosmo Says: Seaholm Warren De La Salle at Birmingham

Brother Rice: Brother Rice looks to be the real deal, but the Warriors will face a big test this week. If Rice is going to contend for titles this season, winning this game would got a long way.

Kosmo Says: Brother Rice

U-D Jesuit at Detroit Catholic Central:

The Shamrocks showed that usual toughness in finding a way past Naperville Central last week. It will continue against Jesuit on Friday. Kosmo Says: Detroit Catholic Central

Troy at Farmington: Troy is doing big things thus far in 2021and off to its best start in 22years. The Falcons are improving each week and coming close to a win. Kosmo just doesn’t see it coming this week.

Kosmo Says: Troy

Troy Athens at Royal Oak:

Troy Athens hasn’t been

4-0 since 1996. The Red Hawks showed a lot by finding a way to win in OT last week. Royal Oak will provide another tough challenge, but this Athens team seems ready to take flight.

Kosmo Says: Troy Athens Bloomfield Hills at Auburn Hills Avondale: The Black Hawks seem to be really clicking right now. A 4-0 start would be the first since 2016. Avondale got its first win last week, but the Jackets aren’t quite ready for Bloomfield Hills’ defense. Kosmo Says: Bloomfield

Hills

Walled Lake Central at Milford:

Milford hasn’t won three games in a season since 2012. The Mavericks should be excited about the direction of the program. Walled Lake Central is still

trying to get some momentum going.

Kosmo Says: Milford

Walled Lake Western at South Lyon East:

The Warriors weren’t able to play last week and should be motivated to get back on the field. It will be another close LVC game, but Kosmo likes the Warriors to edge the Cougars.

Kosmo Says: Walled Lake Western

Berkley at Ferndale: Berkley has clicked it into another gear in recent weeks. The Bears still want a run at the OAA Blue and Ferndale stands in their way.

Kosmo Says: Berkley

Walled Lake Northern at Waterford Kettering:

Both teams are in need of a win. Neither team has been able to find consistency on offense. This week, Kosmo likes Northern to edge Kettering.

Kosmo Says: Walled Lake Northern

Brighton at Novi: Novi made a big statement last week and showed it is ready to be a competitor in the KLAA race. Beating Brighton would mean a lot more. Kosmo Says: Novi

SATURDAY

Madison Heights Bishop Foley at CranbrookKingswood: Bishop Foley is ranked in D7, but now has to jump into the bigger pond of CHSL Intersectional 1play. Kosmo thinks the Ventures have the athletes to get the job done this week.

Kosmo Says: Bishop Foley
