Huron Valley Guns store broken into, suspects sought

Three suspects are sought in connection with a break-in at a Lyon Township store early Tuesday morning.

The Oakland County Sheriff’s Office said nothing was reported stolen in the breaking and entering of Huron Valley Guns, located at 56477 Grand River Ave, which set off a security alarm at around 1:30 a.m.

According to the sheriff’s office, video surveillance shows the suspects arrived at the store at 1:23 a.m. in a gray Jeep that had no license plate. A passenger wearing a blue jacket, mask and gloves left the vehicle, checked to see if the building’s front door was locked and then returned to the Jeep. The Jeep was then driven across the lawn and backed up to the building’s rear side, and one of the suspects threw a concrete block through the window of the business’s roll-up garage door, which provides access to the store’s restaurant. The three suspects, all wearing masks and gloves, then went inside and attempted to enter the store’s showroom but were unable to break into the entry door window. They then left the store and drove away, the sheriff’s office said.

Sheriff Mike Bouchard urges anyone who has information on the break-in to contact the sheriff’s office or local police.

“Obviously, individuals that are organized and breaking into a firearms store have very bad intentions of how those weapons ultimately will be used,” Bouchard stated in a news release. “These are precisely the kinds of guns that end up being involved in crimes, including homicides. We really need the public’s help to catch these individuals before they are successful in another attempt.”

A reward of up to $1,000 is offered for information leading to an arrest. Call 1-800-SPEAK-UP to leave an anonymous tip. Tipsters can also reach the lead investigator on the case, Detective Jared Rutkowski, at 248-437-5600.
