Online:

It’s finally starting to feel like football weather outside.

While Kosmo can do without the relentless rain, a nice cool breeze in the night’s sky is what football is all about.

It’s a great time for fall weather to roll in, as Week 5 has some major matchups in Oakland County.

We have some teams doing things they haven’t done in decades, while other traditional powers are looking like state title contenders once again.

Enjoy the weather, and enjoy this week’s picks!

FRIDAY

South Lyon at Lakeland: The featured game of the week is for first place in the Lakes Valley Conference. The Eagles keep finding ways to win, while South Lyon made a big statement last week with a dominant win over Country Day. The Lions look to be the team to beat in the LVC. Their defense has been nearly perfect in the last three games. Lakeland won’t make it easy, but Kosmo has to go with South Lyon.

Kosmo Says: South Lyon Clarkston at Oxford: The Wildcats got a big rivalry win over Lake Orion last week and look to get another this week. Problem is, nobody has been able to slow down this Clarkston offense.

The Wolves can beat you on the ground or in the air. Often times, they do it with both.

Kosmo Says: Clarkston

Troy Athens at Berkley: This should be a great game in the OAA Blue. Troy Athens is off to its best start in 25years, while Berkley is just a play away from being 4-0 as well. The difference in this one is likely to be the Berkley defense, which has been playing at a very high level. Kosmo Says: Berkley

Farmington at Bloomfield Hills:

The Black Hawks have been unstoppable since grinding out a tough win over Berkley in Week 1. Farmington has shown improvement in recent weeks, but this is a tough matchup to get its first win.

Kosmo Says: Bloomfield Hills

Walled Lake Western at Milford:

The Mavericks have won three games for the first time since 2012. It’s been a great story in the first half of the 2021 season. Friday will be a big test against a Western team with a lot of offensive potential. You know Kosmo likes himself a good storybook ending.

Kosmo Says: Milford

North Farmington at Rochester:

Last week had to be a learning experience for the Raiders. Kosmo thinks they will come back stronger this week on the road against the Falcons.

Kosmo Says: North Farmington

Oak Park at Birmingham Groves:

Both teams picked up their first win of the season last week. Both have also played some tough competition. The difference is, Oak Park has been up against the best of the best this season.

Kosmo Says: Oak Park

West Bloomfield at Lake Orion:

The Dragons are in desperate need to get back on track, but that’s going to be tough to do against a talented West Bloomfield squad. The Lakers are starting to find their groove, which could be trouble for the rest of the OAA Red.

Kosmo Says: West Bloomfield

Birmingham Seaholm at Rochester Adams:

The Highlanders have established themselves as the team to beat in the OAA White. There’s no slowing that train down this week.

Kosmo Says: Adams

Southfield A&T at Stoney Creek:

The Warriors ran into a speed bump at Clarkston last week, but still have shown that they can compete with the best. The Cougars have lost two straight in the division and it will be tough to play spoiler this

week.

Kosmo Says: Southfield A&T Walled Lake Northern at Waterford Mott: Mott seems to have a pretty special young quarterback under center. Coming off a tough loss to Lakeland, the Corsairs are going to be looking to overwhelm the Knights.

Kosmo Says: Mott Waterford Kettering at Walled Lake Central:

Something has to give for these 0-4 teams. The Vikings have to be foaming at the mouth to snap this 21-game losing streak. The Captains are young, but have been competitive. Kosmo is flipping the coin here and going with the good story.

Kosmo Says: Walled Lake Central Dearborn Edsel Ford at Troy: The Colts are off to their best start since 1999. Now they jump out of OAA play. Can the Troy defense continue its dominant play against Edsel Ford? Kosmo

thinks so.

Kosmo Says: Troy

Novi at Canton: It’s been impressive to see Novi’s start to the 2021season. The Wildcats are playing with a lot of fight and energy. They will need it against Canton on Friday. Kosmo Says: Novi

Warren De La Salle at Orchard Lake St. Mary’s: The Eaglets start CHSL play this week and each game over the next three weeks is likely to be decided by a few key plays. DLS got the better end of those plays last week against Brother Rice, and the same could happen again this week.

Kosmo Says: De La Salle

SUNDAY

Birmingham Brother Rice at Detroit Catholic Central: The annual rivalry will be held as part of the Boys Bowl. A great Sunday afternoon setting for football. No CHSL Central win is going to come easy this year. With a game that should be as close and competitive as this one, Kosmo has to go with the home team.

Kosmo Says: Catholic Central
