Regional recap: Adams prevails in three-way tie

The 2021 girls golf regionals have taken place throughout the week and Oakland County has a number of state qualifiers.

Here’s a recap of the team and individual­s around the area that will be moving on.

Division 1 ADAMS WINS A THREE-WAY TIEBREAKER

Rochester Adams, Bloomfield Hills and Troy Athens each shot a 340 to tie for first in the D1 regional at Pine Knob Golf Course on Wednesday.

Adams was awarded the title due to having the lowest fifth score of the three. All three teams advance to next week’s state finals at The Meadows at Grand Valley State on Oct. 15-16.

Sophomore Laura Liu led Adams with a 76, while Katie Fodale shot an 82, Alyssa Fodale posted an 84, and Alexa Camargo carded a 98.

Bloomfield Hills was led by senior Esha Varchasvi, who shot a 78. Sydney Kennedy added a 79, Brooke Bugajewski shot an 86, while Avery Law shot a 97.

Junior Olivia Hemmila shot a 72 to lead Troy Athens and earn medalist honors at the tournament. Ava Weeks added an 81 for the Red Hawks, while Amelia Lin shot an 88, and Sreejani Kanuri posted a 99.

Rochester freshman Madison Yang shot a 79 to earn an individual qualifying spot, while Troy junior Riley Hayden (83) and Troy senior Donna Yoon (86) also qualified.

STONEY CREEK ROLLS

The Stoney Creek girls golf team won the D1 regional title at Twin Lakes on Wednesday with a 355 total, besting the field by 18 strokes.

Utica Stevenson finished second with a 373, while St. Clair Shores Lakeview was third with a 391.

Senior Addie Delcamp was medalist on the day to lead Stoney Creek. She posted an 82. Jordyn Cook added an 88, Marisa Kelley shot a 90, while Peyton Donovan carded a 95.

FARMINGTON EARNS REGIONAL TITLE

The Farmington girls golf team won the Division 1 regional championsh­ip at Fox Creek on Monday, posting a 368 team total.

Livonia Stevenson placed second with a 375, while Royal Oak shot a 438 for third. All three teams advance to the state finals next weekend.

Venetia Chap was medalist of the event with an 81 to lead Farmington. Sydney Chap added an 86, while Lucy Kent shot a 100 and Brielle Burns posted a 101.

Gillian Iles led Royal Oak with a 107, while Sophie Matthews and Elizabeth Hewelt each shot a 108. Izzi Parrott added a 115.

Southfield A&T’s Rayah Hill shot a 108 to earn one of the three individual qualifying spots.

MILFORD QUALIFIES TWO

Milford’s golf team had two individual­s qualify for the Division 1 finals during Wednesday’s regional at Davison Country Club.

Junior Ava Moore shot an 85, while junior Caroline Colt posted an 87 for the Mavericks to qualify. As a team, Milford finished fourth with a 372 total. Okemos won the regional with a 325.

Division 2 SOUTH LYON PREVAILS

The South Lyon girls golf team claimed a Division 2 regional championsh­ip at Groesbeck Golf Course on

Monday.

The Lions carded a 343 for first, while Haslett finished second with a 352 and Linden was third with a 364.

Junior Gabriella Tapp earned medalist honors with a 72 to lead the Lions. Sophia Joseph posted an 88, while Logan Foust shot a 91, and Sydney Shisler carded a 92.

South Lyon advances to the D2 finals at Bedford Valley in Battle Creek on Oct. 15-16.

MERCY GRABS THE HARDWARE

Farmington Hills Mercy won Thursday’s Division 2 golf regional at Farmington Hills Golf Club, shooting a 353 for first place.

Port Huron Northern placed second with a 367, while Grosse Pointe South finished third with a 383.

Freshman Maeve Casey led the Marlins on the day with an 81. Chloe Vig shot an 87 for Mercy, while Abby Slankster posted a 92 and Mia Juday shot a 93.

Seaholm senior Arya Goel qualified for the finals as an individual by shooting an 86, while Groves senior Riley Sauter also qualified with an 88.

Division 3 CRANBROOK DOMINATES

The Cranbrook-Kingswood golf team prevailed in the Division 3 regional at Pontiac Country Club on Wednesday, shooting a 324 to beat the field by 14 strokes.

Lutheran North finished second with a 338, while Birmingham Marian shot a 349 to place third. All three teams qualified for the D3 state finals at Forest Akers West on Oct. 15-16.

Senior Natasha Samsonov led the Cranes with a 76 on the day, while Ashley Cong shot a 77, Katherine Li posted an 85, and Sienna Ilitch and Mackenzie Behnke each carded an 86.

Marian junior Colleen Hand led the Mustangs with an 81, while Ashley Carroll shot an 83, Stella Lowman posted an 89, and Campbell Whitty carded a 96.

Ortonville Brandon senior Leah LaFleur qualified as an individual, shooting an 89.

COUNTRY DAY, SCA ADVANCE

Detroit Country Day and Wixom St. Catherine both advanced to the Division 3 state finals in Wednesday’s regional at Calderone Farms.

Country Day placed second as a team with a 362, while SCA was third with a 373. Grosse Ile won the regional with a 333.

Junior Ruisi Ma led the Yellowjack­ets on the day with an 80. Becca Borgia added an 89 for DCD, while Rebekah Maibach shot a 90 and Maria Nona posted a 103.

SCA freshman Rachel Fay led the Stars with an 84. Katie Grewe and Abby Hook each posted a 94, while Lucy Krichko added a 101.

Division 4 SHRINE MOVES ON

Royal Oak Shrine qualified for the Division 4 state finals by finished second in Monday’s regional at Washtenaw Golf Course.

The Knights shot a 379 for second, while Ann Arbor Greenhills finished first with a 371.

Junior Sydney Buchanan led Shrine with an 87, while Katherine Kemp carded a 94, Anna Brush added a 95, and Julia Brown posted a 103.

Orchard Lake St. Mary’s sophomore Macy Ward qualified as an individual with a 92. Rochester Hills Lutheran Northwest senior Moorea McNalley also qualified individual­ly, shooting a 99.

The Division 4 state finals will be held at Forest Akers East on Oct. 15-16.
