CPR, tourniquet training offered
If faced with someone having a medical emergency, do you know the best steps to take until professional help arrives?
Training in CPR, AED, wound pressure and tourniquets is being offered to the public next month in Farmington Hills.
The Farmington Hills/ Farmington Emergency Preparedness Commission, in cooperation with the Farmington Hills Fire Department, invites interested residents to attend an American Heart Association Heartsaver® Class, which includes instruction in CPR, AED (Automated External Defibrillator) and “Stop the Bleed” tourniquet training on Thursday, Oct. 21 from 5:30 to 10:30 p.m.
The cost for the class and materials is $10 for Farmington Hills and Farmington residents and $20 for non-residents. Those seeking an American Heart Association Certificate of Training will be charged an additional $20, regardless of residency.
“Stop the Bleed” is a national awareness campaign to promote training and to empower the public to help in a bleeding emergency before EMS or other professionals arrive on scene. Training is offered in applying wound pressure and tourniquet use.
The class will be held in the upstairs training room at Farmington Hills’ fire station #4, at 28711 Drake Rd.
All participants seeking a Certificate of Training must be physically able to perform necessary action requiring kneeling on the floor and using arms for continuous chest compressions.
Registration and payment of fees is required one week prior to the class to ensure proper instructor-student ratio. No refunds on prepayment. Minimum age for participants is 12 years old.
