A note containing “disturbing language” was reportedly discovered Wednesday in a bathroom at Stoney Creek High School in Rochester Hills, but authorities determined it was not credible. Mike McCabe, Oakland County undersheriff, said deputies were alerted to the threat by school officials.

“At this time we do not believe that this is a credible threat,” McCabe said, Wednesday afternoon. “However, out of an abundance of caution, deputies are on scene investigating and school officials are following their protocols to ensure the safety of students and faculty members.”

Lori Grein, spokesperson for Rochester Community Schools, said district families were notified of the situation at 12:42 p.m. Wednesday.

Robert Shaner, superintendent of the district, said both Stoney Creek High School and Hart Middle School were placed in a partial lockdown, where no one could enter or leave the building.

“All students and staff are safe; there is no cause for alarm at this time,” Shaner said in district correspondence. “The safety and security of our students and staff is always our priority, and we take all perceived threats very seriously. All members of our school community should experience an environment where they are safe, valued and respected.

“We want to assure our school community that we are acting with urgency and intention to continue to investigate this situation. Appropriate corrective actions will be taken, and those responsible will be held accountable.”

Grein said that just after 3 p.m. the district received a message from the sheriff’s office saying both schools were secure.

McCabe repeated what Sheriff Michael Bouchard said repeatedly after last week’s shooting at Oxford High School. Anyone that makes such threats “will be thoroughly investigated and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law,” he said.

Anyone with information regarding the note found at Stoney Creek today is asked to contact the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office immediately at (248) 858-4911.
