Area Scouts collect 112,000 pounds of food for charities
Scouts with the local Michigan Crossroads Council collected 112,732 pounds of food for local charities, through the Scouting for Food drive during November. The scouts exceeded their goal of 100,000 pounds.
Approximately 4,600 participants from 152 units across Southeast Michigan participated, event cochairman Scott Nehls said in a press release.
Scouts canvassed homes across Oakland, Wayne, Macomb and Genesee Counties.
The drive was carried out in partnership with Gleaners Community Food Bank, which operated a number of collection sites with the scouts. Participants were also given the option to donate food to local pantries of their choice. Of the drive’s total haul, Gleaners received approximately 95,000 pounds of food.
Focus: HOPE volunteers to deliver holiday food to homebound seniors
Focus: HOPE will hold its annual Senior Holiday Food Delivery Day, Dec. 18 to provide holiday meals for seniors living on limited incomes in Southeast Michigan. More than 400 pre-registered volunteers are to arrive at the organization’s campus in Detroit to load and deliver 1,400 holiday food boxes filled with fresh fruits, vegetables, a turkey and holiday treats. The holiday effort is supported by individuals, organizations, and corporations, according to a press release.

Bank of America donates $50,000 for Salvation Army’s gift cards
Bank of America has partnered with the annual Salvation Army of Metro Detroit’s Bountiful Boxes program, to provide Christmas assistance to metro Detroit families. Bank of America donated $50,000 in grocery gift cards to metro Detroit families, according to a press release.
