6 local students selected for Rose Parade
Six South Lyon High School students were selected to perform with the Bands of America Honor Band in the 2022 Tournament of Roses Parade in Pasadena, California.
The students were chosen by nonprofit Music for All, from hundreds of applicants across the nation to participate in the Bands of America Honor Band, according to a press release.
The students are to spend a week in Southern California where they will rehearse, and perform at the Tournament of Roses Bandfest, Disneyland and the Rose Parade.
The program is not a school-sponsored event.
The six South Lyon students are:
• Emily Berg, Senior, Sousaphone
• Layne Malek, Senior, Alto Saxophone
• Kyle Schang, Senior, Tenor Saxophone
• Nathan Schang, Sophomore, Trombone
• Marianna Riminelli, 2021 graduate, Trumpet
• Maranda Willey, 2021 graduate, Alto Saxophone
The Bands of America Honor Band is a 300-piece national ensemble with winds, percussion, and a flag and dance team, representing 213 schools.
The band is under the direction of Richard Saucedo, composer, conductor, and retired director of the national champion Carmel H.S. (IN) marching band.

The 2022 Rose Parade presented by Honda begins at 8 a.m. on New Year’s Day and will be televised worldwide.
