Troy announces lineup for Summer Sensation Concert Series

The City of Troy released the lineup for its Summer Sensation Concert Series, which kicks off this month at Boulan Park.

The concert series, sponsored by Genisys Credit Union, will be held from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on select Thursdays beginning June 30. Boulan Park is located on Crooks Road between Big Beaver and Wattles roads.

“We are so excited to bring back the Troy Summer Concert Series at Boulan Park again this summer,” said Community Affairs Director Cindy Stewart in a statement. “We appreciate the support of our concert series sponsor, Genisys Credit Union, and invite everyone to come out for some fantastic music this summer at one of Troy's largest parks.”

Concertgoe­rs of all ages are invited to bring their lawn chairs and blankets to enjoy live music with friends and family. There will also be local food trucks on-site.

The concert schedule includes:

June 30: Kathleen Murray & The Groove Council

Kathleen Murray & The Groove Council is the band to catch when you feel the need for some funky horndriven R & B with that old school Detroit soul sound. The 9-piece band features four horns and “a smokin' rhythm section.” You'll hear some of your favorite soul classics, a few tasty B-sides, and some new tunes that

have that old-school sound — all with that distinctiv­e Groove Council influence.

July 14: The Dan Rafferty Band

The Dan Rafferty Band has been rocking Detroit for 20 years. They blend fanfavorit­e

styles that range from old school Motown, your favorite funk & R&B right through to today's top hits. They blend smooth harmonies, slick choreograp­hy, and extremely talented musiciansh­ip to create a show that gets their audiences up and dancing every time.

July 28: Devin Scillian & Arizona Son

Winner of the prestigiou­s Detroit Music Award for Best Country Performer, Devin Scillian and his band, Arizona Son have been entertaini­ng audiences with their country, western, and folk music style for more than a decade. Devin's original songs have led to three albums full of favorites here, as well as on the country charts in Europe.

August 11: Thornetta Davis — Detroit’s Queen of the Blues

The official “Detroit's Queen of Blues” Thornetta Davis is a six-time National Blues Music Award Nominee, including two for the 2021 BMAs for “Best Soul/ Blues female and Best instrument­alists/vocals. She is a 2021 Jus' Blues Foundation Award recipient, and a 2018 Kresge Fellowship awardee. Her 2016 album “Honest Woman,” which she wrote and produced, has won over 30 Detroit Music Awards including eight DMAs in 2017. Thornetta's live performanc­es will leave you feeling uplifted and asking for more. She is supported by some of the best musicians all hailing from Detroit.

August 25: The BackBeats

Beatles tribute group The BackBeats use authentic instrument­s, clothing and hairstyles to transport audiences to the time when the British supergroup reigned supreme. Known to be the only Michiganba­sed Beatles show sponsored by both of the major classic rock Detroit radio stations (FM 104.3 and FM 94.7) and by the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland, they have also brought their show over the pond, including performanc­es in Liverpool at the famed Cavern Club.
