Dr. Benjamin Schwartz has been named the new president of BHSH Beaumont Health, effective July 5.

BHSH was formed earlier this year from two Michigan health systems, Beaumont Health and Spectrum Health, and Priority Health, a provider- sponsored health insurance plan.

Schwartz will be president of the Beaumont arm of the merged BHSH.

During Schwartz’s 27year career, he has both provided care and served in executive and administrative leadership roles.

He comes to BHSH from Northwell Health in New York, where he has served as senior vice president and a physician executive for the eastern region.

Schwartz completed his bachelor of arts at Dartmouth College. He graduated with a medical degree from George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences and earned a master in health care management from Harvard University. In addition, he is board certified in gynecologic oncology and obstetrics and gynecology.

“In the search for the new president of BHSH Beaumont Health, we were looking for a leader with the proven ability to drive excellence, a strong developer of teams and culture, a dynamic communicator, and a strategic and systems thinker. Dr. Schwartz exemplifies these qualities,” said Tina Freese Decker, president and CEO of BHSH System.

Freese Decker also recognized Nancy Susick, RN, for her many contributions as interim president for BHSH Beaumont Health.

Beaumont operates eight hospitals in the Detroit area. Spectrum operates 14 hospitals in west Michigan. Together, they employ about 64,000 people.
