Led by Bosley, 67 county players earn MIHSSCA all-state honors
With teams in three of the four divisional state championship games on the final weekend of the season, five regional winners and 10 district winners, it seemed logical that Oakland County would draw a significant number of all-staters.
And indeed, the county produced 67 all-staters when the Michigan High School Soccer Coaches Association (MIHSSCA) released its all-state teams earlier in the month. Nearly half of those (31) were in Division 1, where the preponderance of the county’s programs reside.
Aside from the four players on the Dream Team, a full 18 players made first team in the four combined divisions, with 13 more earning second-team honors, 10 more earning thirdteam honors, and a whopping 26 earning honorable mentions.
On top of that, Stoney Creek junior midfielder Lilley Bosley was named Ms. Soccer, Bloomfield Hills coach Alan Zakaria was named Coach of the Year, while Royal Oak Shrine’s Mark Som was named the COY for private schools, after both mentors led their teams to state titles.
