Case dismissed against woman accused in pistol whipping
Alleged victim dodges court hearing
A case against a Ferndale woman accused of pistol-whipping her exboyfriend was dismissed Thursday after he failed to show up in court to testify.
Ferndale 43rd District Judge Joseph dismissed the case without prejudice, meaning prosecutors can reactivate the case if the ex-boyfriend shows up to give testimony.
Shawntinique ColemanHudson, 28, was charged with felonious assault Nov. 14 in Ferndale court.
Police said the ex-boyfriend, 28, of Detroit called them about 7:45 p.m. Nov. 13 from the parking lot of a liquor store on East Nine Mile Road.
Officers said they interviewed him and noted he had visible injuries and a cut on his upper lip. He told police Coleman-Hudson followed him to the parking lot at the store in her car.
Police said he also told them that she first got out of her car while he was sitting inside his vehicle and pointed a handgun at him before striking him in the face with the gun’s handle.
The ex-boyfriend reportedly showed up at Coleman-Hudson’s house unannounced and she followed him when he drove off, police said. He told authorities the suspect followed him to the store’s parking lot.
Police said he also told them that she first got out of her car while he was sitting inside the vehicle and pointed a handgun at him before striking him in the face with the gun’s handle.
Police showed up at the parking lot after he called them, but said she was gone when they arrived.
She later told police that he tried to strike her with his car and she struck him in the face with her hand.
Coleman-Hudson denied that she had a gun, police said.
But officers reported they found and confiscated a gun holster and a clip for a handgun inside her car.
Coleman-Hudson didn’t tell police what the argument was about, and the ex-boyfriend gave no account of what led to the assault, police said.
They said the liquor store had video surveillance of the run-in between the former couple that investigators reviewed.
Investigators concluded from the stance the suspect took outside her exboyfriend’s vehicle that it appeared she was holding a handgun.
Coleman-Hudson has prior misdemeanor convictions for false pretenses and retail fraud.
When she was arrested she had outstanding warrants for her arrest on other criminal misdemeanor charges, police said.
The assault charge against Coleman-Hudson that was dismissed Thursday is a five-year felony.
