Vietnam veteran and retired Holly teacher Joe Mishler to present stories of military life
Joe Mishler will present “Joe Unplugged”, stories of military life, Saturday, Feb. 18, at the Fenton Village Players Playhouse in Fenton.
Mishler, a combat wounded Vietnam veteran and retired Holly High School teacher, who taught a Vietnam class there, will give the presentation. Mishler has been involved in theatre since 1983 and this performance will show a different side. He has been interviewing and collecting stories of military life and veterans.
The stories will span a variety of different time periods and reflect different aspects of military and veteran life of both men and women, according to a press release.
Mishler is one of the directors of the Holly Area Veterans Resource Center, and president of Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 175.
This past summer he was the co-chair of the project that brought the Vietnam Traveling Memorial Wall to Holly for the first time. He is also active with American Legion Holly Post 149.
He chose to raise money for the Fisher House because of the American Legion and past state commander Steve Striggow.
The Fisher House is located in Ann Arbor behind the Veterans Administration Hospital and the University of Michigan Hospital. Veterans and their loved ones can stay there while a loved one
is hospitalized. Housing, food and other amenities are provided cost free.
The event is at 7 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 18 at the Fenton Village Players Playhouse,14197 Torrey Road in Fenton. It is sponsored by American Legion Holly Post 149 and the Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 175 Genesee County.
Tickets are $10 for one and $15 for two. Before the program there will be a 50-50 raffle and other items to bid on. Donations can be made during the evening. There will also be information booths.

Oakland County Veterans Resource Fair is Feb. 22
The Oakland County
Veterans Resource Fair is from 9 a.m. to noon Wednesday, Feb. 22, at Plumbers Union Local
98, 555 Horace Brown in Madison Heights.
Representatives will be on site to serve all veterans, active duty, guard and reserves, and their families with resources including free nonperishable food boxes and the following:
• Gary Burnstein Community Health Clinicscheduling free dental appointments.
• Detroit VA-administering first and second doses of COVID-19 vaccinations, and boosters.
• Oakland County Health Department—COVID-19 vaccines based on CDC guidance.
• Dorsey College Cosmetology Program. Hairstylists will be on site giving free haircuts to veterans.
• Oakland County Veterans’ Services will provide information and claims assistance regarding veteran’s benefits and give away $50 Meijer
gift cards. To be eligible, recipients must be a veteran and Oakland County resident and must present a copy of DD214.
• Oakland Community Health Network to address any behavioral health issues and concerns, including behavioral health needs for children.
• Oakland County Parks and Recreation to give out free annual vehicle permits.
• Oakland County Michigan Works! to provide veterans and their families with career planning, training programs, job search resources and the opportunity to meet with an employment specialist.
• Oakland County Housing and Neighborhood Development will be available to help residents with housing counseling and more.
• VA Suicide Prevention will provide free gun locks.
