dictorian, and sang in the Rackham Choir. She was also a regular at Stagecrafters in Royal Oak, where she “loved the people, loved the work that was happening.” By the time she got to Western,

however, Fisher — who also cites the musical adaptation of “Hairspray” as an influence — knew that musical theater would suit her best.

“I was thinking really hard about how I could encompass everything that I loved to do,” she explains. “So I was brought to doing musical theater because many of my mentors were on Broadway, and it seemed so amazing to me that you could sing and dance and act like that, in the same show. That was definitely it for me.”

Fisher’s other experiences in Kalamazoo included roles in “Sister Act,” “The Wiz” and “Shakespeare in Love” as well as performing “Guys and Dolls” with the Battle Creek Symphony Orchestra. She moved to New York City after graduating in 2021 with a Musical Theatre Performance degree and was part of the national tour of “Dog Man: The Musical” — flying back to audition for “Superstar,” which began rehearsals the day before her 24th birthday last September.

And it’s not lost on Fisher that her transition into the professional theater world has been seamless — and prolific.

“I’m so grateful I’ve been able to survive and make a living with my creativity,” she says. “I’m really lucky to keep getting paid for just doing exactly what I want to do.”

The “Jesus Christ Superstar 50th Anniversary Tour” runs Tuesday, Feb. 28 through March 4 at the Fisher Theatre,

3011 W. Grand Blvd., Detroit. Tickets start at $41. 313-872-1000 or broadwayindetroit.com.
