Thanks to more than $1.8 billion in reported adult-use marijuana sales in Michigan for fiscal year 2022, $59.5 million-plus is on its way to the state’s municipalities and counties with marijuana stores and microbusinesses as part of the Michigan Regulation and Taxation of Marijuana Act.

The payouts, from the Marihuana Regulation Fund, will be distributed in the next few days, according to the Michigan Department of Treasury.

Distributions will include $1,140,506 for Oakland County, along with distributions to its six cities and one village with marijuana business licenses — Ferndale, Hazel Park, Lake Orion, Madison Heights, Oxford Village, Pleasant Ridge and Walled Lake. The distribution breakdown:

• Ferndale, five licenses — $259,206

• Hazel Park, eight licenses — $414,729

• Lake Orion, one license — $51,841

• Madison Heights, two licenses — $103,682

• Pleasant Ridge, one license — $51,841

• Oxford Village, two licenses — $103,682

• Walled Lake, three licenses — $155,523

“Municipalities and counties will begin seeing these payments appear in their banking accounts,” Michigan Treasurer Rachael Eubanks stated in a news release. “Through a partnership, the dollars received from the adult-use marijuana taxes and fees are distributed to our participating communities.”

The total distribution throughout the state, collected from 574 licensees in fiscal 2022, will be $59,513,709, according to the treasury department.

Other distributions from the Marihuana Regulation Fund from last year’s sales included $69.4 million to the School Aid Fund for K-12 education and $69.4 million to the Michigan Transportation Fund.
