New website devoted to cold case homicides, missing persons

The Farmington Hills Police Department has launched a webpage dedicated to cold case homicide and missing person investigations.

Currently, the department has seven unsolved homicide cases — the oldest from 1974 — and five missing person cases, dating back to 2019.

A team of investigators within the department’s detective section are devoted to solving the cold case homicides, with a mission to bring justice to the victims and closure to their loved ones, according to Farmington Hills Police Chief Jeff King.

Homicide cold cases:

• Kerry Beatty, shot to death outside his apartment in Farmington Hills in 2005. He was shot several times.

• Armond Hickmon, slain outside his apartment in Farmington Hills in 2004. He was shot several times.

• Gordon Machek, killed in his Farmington Hills home in 2001. The suspect in the case is Edgardo Luis Perez, aka Eddie Perez, and there’s a warrant for his arrest.

• Kristi Frontera, who went missing on March 19, 1993. In 2001, her partial skeletal remains were located in a river by the Detroit Police Department’s Dive Team during a training exercise.

• Darlene McKenzie, whose body was found near I-696 and Haggerty Road in 1975.

• Dennis Wallace, found shot to death on 14 Mile Road near Rock Ridge Road in 1974.

• William Jones, found shot to death on 11 Mile Road near Power Road in 1974.

“Our goal is to let the families know we will never forget their loved ones, and let the perpetrators know we are dedicated to ensuring justice,” King said. “I hope that putting this information out to the public will bring new information. The passing of time allows for decreased pressure for an otherwise reluctant witness to come forward. Please visit this webpage and help these families who have never gotten the justice or closure they deserve.”

For the missing person investigations, the goal is to develop further information by publicizing the cases. They include:

• Amaya Marie Arteago, 14, missing since June 16, 2022

• Jacob Petty, 14, missing since May 8, 2022

• Joshua Petty Jr., 16, missing since May 8, 2022

• Nicholas Nassir Bouyer, 15, missing since Nov. 15, 2020

• Eimy Bertila Lopez, 18, missing since Sept. 12, 2019

“I cannot imagine the daily pain of not knowing where a family member is and whether they are safe,” King said. “Our police department is dedicated to ensuring the missing persons are safely located.”
