MEET YMUSIC ENSEMBLE

-

Ben Folds isn’t a stranger to collaboration. He loves throwing around ideas with other musicians who have “super powers,” and creating something fun. He worked on a majority of “So There” with yMusic, an orchestral sextet with a classical prowess and renown acclaim.

YMusic is joining Folds for his Oklahoma City stop (no small task), and Folds had some nice things to say about the artists who have careers that take them around the world.

Nadia Sirota

(violist) — She has a really important podcast called “Meet the Composer.” She’s one of the best violists you’ll ever hear, and she’s funny as s---.

Rob Moose (violinist and violist) — He plays on probably nearly 100 records a year. I mean, he just plays on all this interesting stuff. Real varied, from just one side of the spectrum to the next. Very openminded about it.

C.J. Camerieri (trumpet, French horn and keyboard player) — He plays with Paul Simon and Sting, among other people.

Alex Sopp

(flutist) — She sings on a lot of the album (“So There”). She has a female voice that is really kind of a big part of the show, and she’s like kind of a Broadway fanatic, too. You know, like with a bizarre sense of humor and total ham (laughs), you can print that. I’ll bat her down after.

Hideaki Aomori

(clarinetist) — One of the best jazz players I’ve ever heard on any instrument. Absolutely phenomenal.

Gabriel Cabezas

(cellist) — The youngest of the bunch at 22 or 23. He’s a rising star and has played on some important symphony recordings. On tour, he’s always being flown somewhere to play on a recording.
