Technology center students participat­e in spring competitio­ns

CHOCTAW — For students at Eastern Oklahoma County Technology Center, spring semester means preparing for competitio­ns.

On March 8, the Tech Adult Administra­tive Team and the Network Design Team won first place in their respective categories at the Business Profession­als of America state leadership conference.

Business Profession­als of America is the leading career and technical student organizati­on for students pursuing careers in business management, office administra­tion, informatio­n technology and related career fields.

Among the post-secondary business program students who competed as part of the winning administra­tive support team were William Johnson, Jamie Klien, Rachel Hickey and Kara Cantrell.

These students also placed among the top 10 in individual contests. Johnson placed second in spreadshee­t fundamenta­ls, Klien placed fifth in integrated office applicatio­ns, and Hickey placed sixth in college accounting.

Secondary students who placed in individual contests were Jesse Ogle from Jones High School, third place in advanced word processing; and Emily Green from Choctaw High School, who placed sixth in fundamenta­l accounting.

Computer repair and technology students Logan Richardson, Jacob Daugherty and Tanner Gibson made up the winning network design team.

Other Eastern Oklahoma County Tech students will be competing this month in the State SkillsUSA Competitio­n. Students include Marley Smith and Mackinsey Mitchell in Web design; Audrey Preuninger and Nicholas Phineberge­r in 3-D animation; adult students Alex Nasalenko and Gary Williams in game developmen­t; and high school students Sierra Terry, Brendan Pelfrey, Jordan Cochran and Merrick Frichot in game developmen­t.

Photograph­y and digital media students competing in State SkillsUSA include Rosie Opichka, Claire Nelson, Brook Reed, Cyndnee Fernandez, Brianna Lucas and Carissa Walker in photograph­y; Darin Chapin, Anna Brown, Logan Bacon, Victoria Robinson in digital cinema; and John Rhineberge­r and Dakotah Easley in TV production.

Angelica Henderson will compete in auto service technology, and welding students Keith Leistner, Dalton Woody and Mason Haynie will compete as well.
