Questions for Trump
Some questions to ask Donald Trump: If elected president, how much time will he spend “making America great again” and how much time will he devote to his businesses? Exactly how will Trump force Mexico to pay for a fence? Exactly how will Trump force American corporations to return their manufacturing businesses to the U.S.? Does he expect CEOs of large international corporations to respond well to name calling and bullying? Will Trump release his tax returns? If not, why not?
The New York Times reports that Donald Trump Jr. offered John Kasich the chance to become the most powerful vice president in history. “When Kasich’s adviser asked how this would be the case, Donald Jr. explained that his father’s vice president would be in charge of domestic and foreign policy. Then what, the adviser asked, would Trump be in charge of? ‘Making America great again’ was the casual reply.”
Exactly how will Trump make America great if someone else is in charge of domestic and foreign policy? Why then does Trump want to be president?
LOCAL VA PRAISE
We are bombarded with news regarding terrible events at the Department of Veterans Affairs. Unfortunately, much of it probably is true. Not, however, here at the Oklahoma City medical center. Yes, at times, the fourth-floor lab feels like feeding time at the zoo, but there are only so many draw chairs and we need those results for our appointments. And yes, my 1 p.m. appointment may not occur until 1:30 or 2 p.m. — possibly those earlier are having trouble explaining their symptoms, having difficulty understanding their meds, or haven’t taken the time to understand their own health to adequately explain it to doctors, so extra time is needed. That’s why I bring a book.
Yes, there have been times I’ve been told, “Not in my job description,” or “can’t do that, I leave at 4.” Yet almost every time, someone has stepped in and said “I’ll do it.” Surrounding us are young vibrant staff and their older medical and administrative supervisors.
For the most part these are good folks trying to help us. All day, every day, they face grumpy people who feel entitled to more and having it done quicker. We need to help them help us. I cannot say enough good things about the treatment I receive. Thanks to the oncology and surgical staff, the folks in the other clinics as well as the labs and infusion centers, I remain upright and breathing.
GOD HELP US
Regarding “Shoehorning animal welfare regs into program for organic foods” (Our Views, July 20): While this administration busies itself writing regulations to “minimize pain, stress and suffering” for livestock, it ignores and condones the butchering of human fetuses for body parts. God help us!
