MIDWEST CITY — Carl Albert coach Gary Rose liked what he saw Thursday night.

The Titans dominated Putnam North 23-0 in a half-game scrimmage and played well in rapid fire plays against both Mustang and Lawton MacArthur.

“Our tempo was better,” Rose said. “We have the ability to do some tempo stuff. We’re not hurrying, but if we want to hurry we can go NASCAR pace.”

Quarterback Johnny Bizzell looked better in his second scrimmage, running for a touchdown and later throwing a 55-yard TD to

Jason Taylor.

“He’s going to be special, I think,” Rose said. “He’s a great competitor and he loves playing and he’s a good leader. I feel great about his progress.”

Rose was really impressed with slot receiver Aaron Hill, who used his impressive speed to make several big plays in the absence of injured star

Diego Richards.

LAWTON MAC’S DAVIS RETURNS TO FIELD

Less than a year after he pleaded guilty to criminal charges stemming from a home invasion, Lawton MacArthur senior B.J. Davis completed his second football scrimmage

Davis, 18, completed a rehabilitation program as part of Oklahoma’s Youthful Offender Act, which dismissed and expunged the charges.

Lawton MacArthur coach Brett Manning declined to comment following the scrimmage.

At 6-foot-2 and 195 pounds, Davis shined at linebacker, running back and on kickoff coverage. He rushed the Mustang quarterback several times.

In September 2015, he pleaded guilty to first-degree burglary, conspiracy to commit robbery with a weapon, first-degree robbery with a weapon and resisting an officer.

Davis completed his rehabilitation in June.

MUSTANG OFFENSE SLUGGISH

Mustang coach Jeremy Dombek wasn’t too worried about the offense following a 17-7 loss to Lawton MacArthur in a half game.

“We were just inconsistent,” Dombek said. “But, again, very vanilla, too.”

Dombek said his quarterback battle between

Brayden Garrett and Haden White left him desiring more. At times, Garrett ran the ball well, while White threw it well. The receivers also struggled.

“We’re not throwing and catching it very well at all,” Dombek said. “We’ve got to decide what we want to do offensively, and if we can’t complete passes we’ve got to look at something else.”

But Mustang also held out starting running back

Carlos Thomas and go-to

receiver Ping Harris. Nebraska commitment

Deontre Thomas was also limited along with the rest of the first-team defense.

HARRIS NEARING DECISION

Putnam North offensive lineman Andre Harris Jr. has a week to make his college decision.

The 6-4, 300-pound senior said he will announce his college commitment next Thursday during a pep assembly at the high school.

Harris has his decisions down to Arkansas State, Louisiana-Monroe, New Mexico and New Mexico State.

Putnam North struggled offensively throughout the scrimmage, but the run game was impressive at times behind Harris with

Jalen Baker.

“We’ve just got to work on our offense overall,” Harris said. “We’ve come a long way since last year.”
