Gaillardia hosts Navy Golf Classic

- FROM STAFF REPORTS

The third annual Oklahoma City Navy Golf Classic will take place Oct. 10 at Gaillardia Country Club as a featured event of OKC Navy Days.

Last year, 80 sailors enjoyed a day of golf, fellowship and hospitality thanks to the support of local sponsors.

“We enjoy our partnership with OKC Navy Days and the support from sponsors and volunteers to make the OKC Navy Golf Classic possible,” said Chris Watkins, general manager of Gaillardia Country Club. “It is a truly rewarding experience for our staff to show in this small way our appreciation to those who wear the uniform, serve their country and protect our freedom.”

The sailors for the tournament are chosen by Navy command and represent a cross section of men and women serving in the U.S. Navy. The majority of the sailors who play in the tournament are stationed at the Navy wing known as TACOMA (“Take Charge and Move Out”) at Tinker Air Force Base. More than 1,000 active-duty sailors are stationed at the Navy wing, according to a news release.

“The Navy has a tremendous impact on our community, including an annual economic impact of over $100 million,” said Navy Days founder Mike McAuliffe. “We are honored to have the United States Navy in our community, and we appreciate their investment, contributions and involvement in our city.”

This year, the Navy Classic is partnering with the Warriors for Freedom Foundation. Warriors for Freedom is a resource dedicated to supporting and improving mental, physical and holistic wellness for active-duty military, veterans and their families through social and recreational activities.
