Auditions set for ‘Oklahoma Nutcracker’

NORMAN — The Norman Ballet Company will hold auditions for dancers and performers for its 2016 production of “The Oklahoma Nutcracker” on Sunday at the Kovich School of Ballet, 1312 S Berry Road.

The Nutcracker auditions are open to area dancers ages 7 and older.

Auditions for Norman Ballet Company dancers and apprentice­s, ages 12 and older, also will be held that day. Dancers from all studios are welcome.

Auditionin­g dancers must request an audition time by contacting Norman Ballet Artistic Director Marjorie Kovich at admin@normanball­et company.com. The dancer’s birthdate and height must be included in the request. The dancer’s audition time, applicatio­n form and other pertinent informatio­n will be sent via email, once the audition request has been submitted.

Requests for audition reservatio­ns must be received no later than noon Saturday. All dancers must reserve an audition time.

A $10 audition fee per dancer will be charged. Pay by bank check, money order (payable to the Norman Ballet Company), debit or credit card. Cash cannot be accepted.

Roles available

Children ages 7 and older are eligible to audition for roles as Party Scene children, mice, soldiers and baby armadillos. Roles for older dancers include angels, cowgirls and the corps de ballet roles in the Snow Scene and Waltz of the Flowers.

Dancers 12 and older can audition for positions as Norman Ballet Company members and apprentice­s, as well as for additional roles in the corps de ballet. A minimum of four years of ballet training and a minimum of one year of pointe work is required. For dancers auditionin­g as company dancers, a minimum of three ballet classes per week at the studio of their choice is a requiremen­t.

Dancers are selected according to size, musicality, expression, ability to follow directions, ballet skills and technique. Dancers must be available for all rehearsals for their roles.

Actors/stage performers with dance skills also are needed for roles as the Nutcracker Prince, Mouse King, parents in the party scene and other Act I acting roles.

For the audition, girls should wear a black leotard, pink tights and pink ballet shoes and bring pointe shoes, if applicable. Boys should wear a white T-shirt, shorts or black tights, ballet shoes or heavy socks.
