TEXAS CHROME WINS DERBY

Favorite Texas Chrome won the Grade 3 $400,000 Oklahoma Derby on Sunday at Remington Park. The 3-year-old is the first Texas-bred horse to win the 1 1/8-mile derby.

Trained by J.R. Caldwell, Texas Chrome has won eight of his last 13 starts. Texas Chrome was ridden on Sunday by C.J. McMahon and paid $6.60, $3.60 and $2.60 for a race that lasted 1:48.94.

Sticks stately dude ($5.80, $3.60) finished second, and Fish Trappe Road ($3.00) was third.

The Oklahoma Derby is the richest thoroughbr­ed race at Remington Park.

SOONERS TRIM LONGHORNS

A late goal in regulation and a late goal in overtime helped lift Oklahoma to a 2-1 Big 12 soccer victory over Texas on Sunday afternoon at John Crain Field in Norman.

OU (9-2-1 overall, 2-0-0 in the Big 12) trailed for 78 minutes before midfielder Rasha Roberts tied it 1-1 in the 86th minute. With 29 seconds left in the first overtime, midfielder Lizzie Luallin scored the winner.

The comeback extended OU’s win streak to seven matches, the second longest in program history behind a nine-match stretch in 2005.

Texas (6-4-1, 0-1-1) scored in the ninth minute, when freshman Cyera Hintzen scored her second goal of the season. OU tried to clear the initial Texas opportunit­y, but it deflected off a Sooner defender to the foot of Hintzen and into the back of the net.

OU continues Big 12 play on the road when it takes on Iowa State at 7 p.m. Friday in Ames.

BAYLOR SINKS COWGIRLS

Aline De Lima scored in the 96th minutes on Sunday, giving Baylor a 2-1 Big 12 win over Oklahoma State at the Cowgirl Soccer Complex in Stillwater.

OSU (5-5-2 overall, 0-2-0 Big 12) took a 1-0 lead in the 18th minute Marlo Zoller’s third goal of the season. Baylor (8-3-1, 1-0-1) tied it 50 minutes later on

Sarah King’s score. OSU returns to action 7 p.m. Friday at Texas.

ENERGY PLAYOFF MATCHUP SET

The OKC Energy will face the Rio Grande Valley Toros in its first round playoff match after Colorado Springs’ loss Saturday moved Rio Grande up to the second seed. The winner will play the victor of Colorado Springs-Vancouver in the second round.
