The Capitol renovation project in Oklahoma City is shifting into high gear with major infrastructure work taking place in the basement at the same time as scaffolding is being installed outside for work on the exterior.

The state Office of Management and Enterprise Services, noting the Capitol is “now a fulltime construction zone,” announced Monday a set of building changes to facilitate construction and ensure safety:

• The southwest elevator will shut down Monday, until the end of 2018. Three other elevators will remain in service.

• The southwest staircase between the basement and first floor will shut down Monday, until the end of 2018.

• The basement snack bar will close next month and reopen in the snack bar location in the north hallway of the fourth floor. A food service area will reopen in the basement near the end of the restoration.

• Basement restrooms adjacent to the snack bar will close Oct. 10 until 2020.

• The fitness center in the basement closed earlier this month. It will reopen near the end of 2018.

• Reservations for public spaces will be suspended beginning in 2017.

The restoration project is expected to be finished in 2022.
