Moore Fire Department has a position opening
The Moore Fire Department has an opening for a Firefighter 1 position. Feb. 3 is the closing date to submit an application, and the department will only accept the first 100 applications.
Fire Chief Gary Bird said a firefighter retired Dec. 31, which created the vacancy. He said the department has 72 uniformed members and one nonuniformed employee. He expects other retirements in 18 to 20 months.
The full-time position pays $38,753 annually and offers benefits.
To test for the position, applicants must be 18 to 44 years old, have a high school diploma or GED with 15 hours of college, possess certification with the International Fire Services Accreditation Congress or Pro Board Firefighter 1 certification and have an emergency medical technician license.
After passing the written test, applicants must pass a physical and agility test. the department's five assistant fire chiefs will interview the applicants. The final decision will be made after an interview with Bird and his deputy fire chief.
Bird said a Firefighter 1 employee has to be with the department for two years before applying to take the test for promotion to corporal.
The Moore Fire Department's administration office is at 2400 Fritts Blvd. Hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

The Oklahoma City Parks and Recreation Department has rescheduled its trout fishing clinic that was canceled because ofbad weather.
The new date is from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Friday at the Putnam City High School Gymnasium, 5300 NW 50.
Staff and volunteer educators will share tips for the best bait and equipment for trout, knot-tying, angler ethics, fish identification and more.
The free clinic is open to anglers of all ages. Registration is required in advance by calling the H.B. Parsons Fish Hatchery at 297-1426. The clinic is part of the city’s rainbow trout season, which runs through Feb. 28 at Dolese Youth Park Pond, 5105 NW 50.
