Northweste­rn upsets Wisconsin for huge win

Bryant McIntosh scored 25 points, and defensivem­inded Northweste­rn beat No. 7 Wisconsin 66-59 on Sunday, securing an important win for the school's bid to make its first-ever NCAA Tournament.

Nigel Hayes scored nine of his 13 points in the second half for the Badgers (21-4, 10-2), who had their eightgame winning streak snapped.

The Badgers didn't let up despite falling behind by 10 with 1 minute left, closing to 60-55 with less than 15 seconds after Zak Showalter hit two foul shots.

But McIntosh followed with two free throws with 42 seconds left, and Wisconsin ran out of time.

SMU ends drought against Cincinatti

Ben Emelogu acknowledg­ed that SMU players would have been lying if they said Cincinnati wasn't on their minds.

The 25th-ranked Mustangs got a bit of a revenge, and in the process took a slight lead in the American Athletic Conference standings.

Emelogu hit two 3-pointers and made the tiebreakin­g free throw in the game-deciding 15-0 run for the Mustangs in a 60-51 win Sunday to snap a 15-game winning streak by No. 11 Cincinnati, which had also been responsibl­e for the only loss by SMU in its previous 18 games.

UCLA tops Oregon State

With freshman Lonzo Ball taking over at both ends of the court, No. 10 UCLA forced a second-half change in tempo that made everything fall into place.

Ball had 22 points and nine assists as the Bruins ran away from Oregon State in the second half in a 78-60 victory Sunday.

After scoring a seasonlow 32 points in the first half, the nation's top-scoring offense took control with a full-court press in the second half.

Virginia Tech tops UVA in 2OT

Seth Allen hit a short jumper in the lane with 3.2 seconds left in the second overtime and Virginia Tech beat No. 12 Virginia for the second consecutiv­e year at Cassell Coliseum, 80-78.

Allen, who led the Hokies (17-7, 6-6 ACC) with 22 points, pulled up a few feet from the basket and made the shot, ending a crazy game that featured a tip-in to force the first overtime and a shot that sat on the rim, helping to force the second.

London Perrantes had 22 to lead Virginia (18-6, 8-4), but the Cavaliers couldn't put away their rival.
