Longtime OSU physician Donald Cooper dies

Longtime Oklahoma State team physician

died Wednesday at age 88.

Cooper was director of the school’s student health center and served as OSU’s athletic team physician from 1960-1998. During his time with the Cowboys, he enjoyed nine NCAA team titles. Cooper was considered to be a leader in the treatment of athletic injuries. He also served as the team physician for the U.S. Olympic Team at the 1968 Mexico City Games.

OU’s opening baseball series moved to Norman

Oklahoma will host Long Beach State for a three-game baseball series, beginning 4 p.m. Friday at L. Dale Mitchell Park in Norman.

The series was originally scheduled to be played at Long Beach’s home ballpark. But due to a high chance of rain in Long Beach over the weekend, coaches agreed to move the series to Norman.

Games 2 and 3 of the series will take place at 2 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m. Sunday.

Beasley leads after first round at FireLake

Henne was already under contract for the 2017 season, scheduled to make $3 million, so he restructur­ed his deal and likely took a pay cut. Jones signed a four-year deal worth $16 million, with $6.5 million guaranteed.

Henne has started 53 games since entering the league as a second-round pick by Miami in 2008. Henne has completed 59.3 percent of his passes for 12,931 yards, with 58 touchdowns and 63 intercepti­ons.

Jones has appeared in 54 games with 11 starts since signing with Jacksonvil­le as an undrafted rookie in 2013. He has 96 tackles, 5½ sacks and four passes defensed. FROM STAFF AND WIRE
