Sooners down Wichita State behind Romero’s big game

Sydney Romero knocked in four runs to lead Oklahoma to a 7-3 road victory over Wichita State on Wednesday.

Paige Parker (4-3) picked up the win on the mound for the Sooners, allowing three unearned runs on a Paige Luellen homer in the fourth inning.

Luellen, who is from Jenks, gave Wichita State a 3-2 with her blast, but the Sooners responded with three runs of their own in the fifth.

Fale Aviu had a 2-RBI single in the fifth and the Sooners padded to their lead in the sixth on a 2-RBI triple by Sydney Romero, who had four hits in the game and four RBI.

The Sooners’ Nicole Pendley had a solo homer while Caleigh Clifton was 3-for-4 at the plate with a double.

Parker allowed three hits and fanned 11 in seven innings, walking just one Wichita State batter.

Oklahoma (11-4) will play a pair of games on Friday in Norman, meeting Northweste­rn State at 3:30 p.m. then Evansville at 6:30 p.m.

Razorbacks edge Cowgirls

Oklahoma State rallied with two runs in the sixth inning but came up short in a 7-6 loss to Arkansas in Stillwater.

Arkansas trailed 4-3 entering the sixth inning but scored four times in the top of the frame. Nicole Schroeder was the hitting star for the Razorbacks on Wednesday, going 3-for-4 with six RBI and a home run.

The Cowgirls’ Rylee Bayless was 2-for-3 with a double and three RBI. Vanessa Shipp was 2-for-3 with a double and two RBI. Kristin Reasoner was 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI.

The Cowgirls (8-9) play two games on Friday at Cowgirls Stadium, hosting Abilene Christian at 4 p.m. then Northern Iowa at 6 p.m.
