The Oklahoman’s championship picks

- JACOB UNRUH AND SCOTT WRIGHT, STAFF WRITERS

Scott Wright: Lomega. Hardly anyone in the class has been able to hang with them this season, with both losses coming against highly ranked opponents from larger classes. This type of firepower doesn’t come along at the Class B level too often.

Jacob Unruh: Lomega. Defending champions scored more than 100 points three times and then posted 90-plus on two playoff opponents — including tournament participant Burlington.

Three players to watch

Kenzi Lamer, Jr., Lomega: She’s made a name for herself in the state tournament, being the star for two state title runs. She returns looking to remain perfect in the Big House.

Taber Beer, Sr., Hammon: Beer moved for her senior season and turned out similar numbers to her three years at Leedey — 18 points, six rebounds and four assists per game.

Rebecca Wasson, Sr., Kremlin-Hillsdale: A huge presence, Wasson is a big reason Kremlin-Hillsdale is back for the first time in 22 years. She averages seven rebounds to go along with 18 points.

Wilson completes sweep of classifications

Longtime coach Rick Wilson will accomplish something believed to be pretty rare Thursday.

When his 18th-ranked Duke girls team faces No. 1 Lomega at 7 p.m. it will complete Wilson’s trek of bringing a team from each classification to the state tournament.

“I’ve been very lucky to coach some outstanding players and people,” Wilson said.

Wilson won state titles with Carl Albert (5A), Weatherford (4A), Elk City (3A), Seiling (2A) and HydroEakly (2A). He also led Sand Springs (6A), Elgin (4A) and Sterling (A) to the tournament.
