Tierney takes top prize
South Dakota cowboy
Jess Tierney captured the 2017 CINCH Timed Event Championship and the top prize of $100,000 Sunday at the Lazy E Arena.
Tierney is the third member of his family to claim the title, joining his four-time champion father,
Paul, and his two-time titlist brother, Paul David, the defending champion.
“Now we all have a Timed Event buckle to wear,” said Paul David Tierney, who also won in 2014.

Clay Smith finished second, six seconds behind Jess Tierney after roping and wrestling 25 head of cattle over the weekend.
OU sweeps Central Connecticut
Oklahoma’s baseball team swept Central Connecticut State with an 11-2 win at L. Dale Mitchell Park on Sunday.
The Sooners (13-1) won theirs 12th consecutive game. Pitcher Devon Perez notched his second win of the season.
OSU goes 2-1 at Frisco
Oklahoma State knocked off Arkansas 8-3 on Sunday to finish 2-1 at the Frisco College Baseball Classic.
Jensen Elliott (2-0) surrendered three runs and struck out six in six innings pitched to earn the win.
OU tops Western Kentucky
The Oklahoma softball team edged Western Kentucky 2-1 on Sunday in the Courtyard Marriott Tournament final in Norman on Sunday. OU freshman pitcher Mariah Lopez (5-0) struck out eight and allowed four hits.
Cowgirls fall to UNI
Oklahoma State’s softball team lost 11-5 to Northern Iowa in its final game at the Mizuno Classic on Sunday. The Cowgirls went 4-1 over the weekend to improve to 12-9 this season.
