New retailers head for Broken Arrow

- BY SAMUEL HARDIMAN

BROKEN ARROW — Sprouts Farmers Market in Broken Arrow will soon have some new neighbors, according to a Tennessee-based real estate company.

Jersey Mike’s Subs, Fantastic Sams Cut & Color, Wing Stop and Tropical Smoothie Cafe are coming to more than 10,000 square feet of retail space adjacent to a new QuikTrip on Hillside Drive near Lynn Lane, said GBT Realty Corporation in a news release.

The retail center should be open in the summer of this year, the company said, and is about 70 percent leased.

The announcement is another sign of the growing retail square footage in Broken Arrow along Hillside Drive and Lynn Lane that is quickly becoming one of the densest concentrations of retail in the Tulsa area.

In addition to the Sprouts, a new Hobby Lobby has been built at Hillside Crossings, joining a Starbucks and Mattress Firm. Noodles & Co., which was also in that development, has closed earlier this month as the chain pulled out of the Tulsa area.

It’s not just all retail in the area, either. When Bank of Oklahoma was opening a new branch in the area for the first time in awhile, they chose that location, in part, because of visibility and retail density.

It’s a high traffic area, too. According to data from the Indian Nations Council of Governments, nearby Lynn Lane Road sees close to 20,000 cars a day near the development.

While retail in Broken Arrow is booming now, it hasn’t always. The growth of retail in Broken Arrow is often credited to the arrival of Bass Pro Shop just down the street from the new development about a decade ago. City officials and real estate experts say it was among the factors that proved retail could thrive outside of Tulsa.
