Marshall signs free agent deal
The New York Giants found a complement to Odell Beckham Jr. on Wednesday by signing veteran free-agent receiver Brandon Marshall to a twoyear, $12 million contract.
Marshall said the Giants’ offer might have been the lowest that he got after being released by the Jets last week.
However, Ben McAdoo’s team, which made the playoffs with an 11-5 record last season, offered him something else.
“It was all about championships,” said Marshall, who has never made the playoffs since being drafted in the first round by Denver in 2006.
Vince Young to return to football in Canada
Former University of Texas star Vince Young appears to be set to return to professional football in Canada. Young’s agent, Leigh Steinberg, tweeted Wednesday that he was on his way to Regina to finalize a deal with the Saskatchewan Roughriders. The Canadian Press, citing an unidentified source, reported Young also was making the trip and that the Riders planned to introduce him at a news conference Thursday.
Young turns 34 in May and hasn’t been on an NFL roster since the 2014 offseason, when he was with Cleveland for two weeks. He hasn’t played in a regular-season NFL game since 2011, when he was with Philadelphia.
Young led Texas to a national title in the 2006 Rose Bowl.
Allen traded to New England
Tight end Dwayne Allen is eager to get started with the New England Patriots after the Indianapolis Colts traded him Wednesday on the eve of Thursday’s free agency.
Allen acknowledged the trade on Twitter, where he thanked Colts fans for their support and wrote he was “humbled and eager to earn the right to be called a New England Patriot.”
NFL.com reported the Colts will send Allen and a sixth-round draft choice in exchange for the Patriots’ fourth-round pick.
