Turner Falls wins best destinations contest

More than 100,000 votes were cast in Chickasaw Country’s annual competition on what the best tourism destinations are within its 13 counties in south-central Oklahoma, organizers have announced.

This year’s best attraction was Turner Falls Park, the organization said, while other selections were made in 13 other categories including barbecue, boutiques, overall dining, family-friendly venues, festivals, lodging and others.

Paige Williams Shepherd, director of corporate development and tourism for the Chickasaw Nation, said the number of fan votes continues to increase each year.

She said that shows that awareness of Chickasaw Country as a travel destination continues to grow, and said the competition’s intent is to showcase its offerings to visitors.

The competition started in January. For the full list of 2017 winners and nominees, go to chickasawcountry.com/bocc2017winners.
