With Romo available, Texans trade Osweiler to Browns

-

The Browns found a “franchise quarterback,” just maybe not their own.

With an eye on making another move at quarterback, Cleveland acquired veteran and a 2018 second-round pick on Thursday in a stunning trade with the Houston Texans, who were looking for a partner to help them get rid of the QB’s $16 million guaranteed contract.

The deal was made simply to give Cleveland more assets to perhaps trade for another QB such as New England backup and it allows the Texans to clear some salary-cap space to make a run at a starter.

Dallas Cowboys quarterback could be an option for the Texans. The Cowboys have informed Romo they will either trade or release him, something Romo appeared to confirm in a Twitter video thanking fans for their support.

The Texans, as of Thursday night, would consider signing Romo but do not intend to trade for him, per longtime Houston Chronicle NFL writer

The Denver Broncos are reportedly interested in Romo as well.

Cleveland and Houston are also swapping 2017 fourth- and sixth-round picks within the Osweiler trade.
