Many of us have spring traditions. There’s spring cleaning for one. Yes, that one is not so much fun. What is enjoyable though are the various traditions and festivals people all over the world celebrate as a way to say farewell to winter.

I just love the feeling that comes with spring; it’s the promise of a new season in each day, perhaps, that is exhilarating. Spring is a time of awakening, and so when I first started thinking about writing this article, I perused the Oklahoma Tourism website and found a tremendously helpful article entitled “50 ways to celebrate spring in Oklahoma.”

It mentions different kinds of outdoor activities and festivals, food and holiday celebrations to enjoy in Oklahoma this spring. And I wanted to share a few of them with you.

The first one I want to highlight is called “Enjoy lunch al fresco.” Now, having had the privilege of doing several stories on Oklahoma restaurants, this particular way to celebrate spring caught my eye. It mentions how so many Oklahoma restaurants have some fun and amazing patios. It also mentions “Perfect Patios and Top Spots for Outdoor Dining,” places such as The Rusty Crane in Tulsa, Shangri-La & Island Joe’s at Monkey Island, the Museum Cafe in Oklahoma City and Riverside Cafe at Medicine Park.

Another way to celebrate spring is listed as to “Zipline through the mountains.” It mentions how you can see the Arbuckle Mountains near Davis from quite the vantage point with Air Donkey Zipline Adventures. I did a Discover Oklahoma story with them a few years ago, and, oh my, what a blast that was. You get that bird’seye view of the Arbuckle Mountains. I also found it fascinating from a historical viewpoint because one of the six zip lines they have, from the start to the end, you go across about 250 years of geology.

Being the movie buff that I am, I also loved one of the other highlights mentioned in the article that was called “Catch a double feature in your car.” It, of course, talks about how the warm weather means people coming to catch a flick at a drive-in theater! It specifically mentions Tulsa’s Admiral Twin, which opens near the beginning of April each year.

No. 39 on the article’s list is “Pitch a tent.” Now, there are numerous state parks at which you can tent camp, but in the article, they do mention specifically Beavers Bend State Park in Broken Bow. It has more than 50 tent sites in eight different areas available to campers.

And speaking of experience, go to www.travelok. com, type “spring” in the search bar, and this particular article called “50 ways to celebrate spring in Oklahoma” will pop up for you. It’s chock full of wonderful ideas to pursue for spring in Oklahoma!
