Recycling drive to benefit Pets and People
Unwanted electronic items are sought for an April 15 fundraiser.
United Electronics Recycle is partnering with Pets and People Humane Society, which will use the proceeds for veterinary and medication expenses during the busy spring and summer months.
The electronics can be dropped off from 8 a.m. to noon at 10 W Main. The electronics can be working or not. There will be a $10 charge for televisions smaller than 33 inches and $20 for those over 33 inches.
The recycling company will protect donors from identity theft by destroying computer hard drive data, using U.S. Department of Defense software. Donors can request free certificates of destruction.
Donors with two or more pallets of electronics can schedule free bulk pickups, according to a news release.
“Pets & People’s mission is pet recycling, so it makes sense to partner with United Electronics Recycle at an event like this,” said Peggy Nichols, Pets and People volunteer and event coordinator.
“We encourage residents and business owners to save old computers, electric stoves, curling irons, the kind of junk you put off getting rid of, and bring it to our electronics recycle drive on April 15,” Nichols said.
“It’s a chance to get rid of stuff you replaced at Christmas and protect our water, land and entire environment at the same time.”
Donors do not have to be Yukon residents to drop off items. All electronic recycling donations must be taken on April 15 to 10 W Main, not to the shelter.
Pets and People is a charitable organization that has rescued nearly 50,000 dogs, cats, puppies and kittens.
Pets and People pet adoptions take place at the Yukon Animal Shelter at 701 Inla. Adoption hours are noon to 5:30 p.m. seven days per week. The shelter is two blocks north of Route 66 and one block west.
Pets and People’s adoption fees are $120 for dogs and $80 for cats. The fees include spaying or neutering, rabies certification and tags, microchipping and worming.
Pets are up to date with other vaccinations and have tested negative for various diseases, including heartworms for dogs and feline leukemia for cats.
