HGTV stars Realtors again with plot twist

Denise and Troy Schroder, agents with Keller Williams Elite, will be back on HGTV’s “House Hunters” again soon in an encore with an added plot twist.

The Realtor couple will not only be on the popular show as agents, but as buyers. The date for the episode is not yet set, but it’s supposed to be this spring. It was recorded late last year.

It’s the out-ofnowhere Realtor couple’s second appearance on “House Hunters.” They, and Oklahoma City housing, were featured in an episode in October and November 2014, the year after they started in real estate. Now, they’re among the top performing agents in the metro area.

Combining their passion for selling houses with their search for a new home for themselves does add a different twist to the usual plot line of “House Hunters,” which HGTV summarizes like this:

“‘House Hunters’ takes viewers behind the scenes as individuals, couples and families learn what to look for and decide whether or not a home is meant for them. Focusing on the emotional experience of finding and purchasing a new home, each episode shows the process as buyers search for a home.”

Denise Schroder said it was exciting to be featured in the show again, especially with the added complications to the story.

She said she and Troy came away with a better understanding of what it’s like for buyers on a search for a house, and that viewers will see how even Realtors in the market themselves face the same kinds of issues.

“This definitely gave me an even more empathetic feel for what

buyers experience in terms of buyer’s remorse, stress of packing, moving, inspection, appraisal, etc.,” she said in an email. “We are very transparent about how picky we are in choosing a home.”

She said they were under no pressure — aside for maybe a little stress from being recorded for a TV show with 96 million regular viewers.

“We did not have to move, knew what we wanted and did not want to settle. We wanted a lot of very different things. We wanted to truly show an organic, fresh look at the struggle of finding a home when you want different things,” she said.

They did buy a house and move, but a confidentiality agreement is keeping them mum about where.

“We are so elated to bring HGTV back to the metro to highlight how great we know Oklahoma City is! It is excellent exposure on what an incredible place Oklahoma is and one of the most affordable places to live in the nation. What an honor to be a part of his show for a second time!” she said.
