OKC fish hatchery to hold open house

The H.B. Parsons Fish Hatchery in Oklahoma City will hold an open house for the public on Friday from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m.

The only municipal fish hatchery in Oklahoma, the H.B. Parsons Fish Hatchery raises more than 500,000 walleye, striped bass hybrids and channel catfish which are stocked in Oklahoma City lakes.

During the open house, visitors can tour the hatchery and learn how it raises fish. The hatchery is at 10940 N Meridian.

Sporting Clays shoot to raise money for Children’s Miracle Network

Aiming for Miracles, a sporting clays tournament to raise money for the Children’s Miracle Network, will be held Friday at Silverleaf Shotgun Sports in Guthrie.

Sponsored by the Edmond Kiwanis Club, the day will begin with lunch at noon followed by the sporting clays shoot. Teams and individual shooters are accepted.

Cost is $600 for a team of four or $150 per individual. Ammunition, ear plugs and protective eye wear are provided.

All proceeds go to the Children’s Hospital Foundation to provide care for Oklahoma children.

Tahlequah fly fishing guide to speak in OKC

Fly fishing guide Larry

Clark of Tahlequah will be speaking at Tuesday’s meeting of the Prairie Fly Fishers Club at Camp DaKaNi, 3309 E Hefner Road.

Clark will be discussing smallmouth bass fishing on the Upper Illinois River, where he has been guiding the past 15 years.

Clark has taught fly fishing and fly tying in continuing education programs in both Arkansas and Oklahoma, along with weekend fly fishing classes for beginners and smallmouth bass clinics all over the region.

A graduate of the Sweetwater Guide School of Montana, Clark also has served as a commission­er on both the Arkansas and Oklahoma Scenic River commission­s, as well as has been the charter president for two fly fishing clubs.

The meeting begins at

7 p.m. and is open to the

public.

Kayak bass tournament Saturday at Broken Bow Lake

The Beaver’s Bend Kayak Classic bass fishing tournament will be Saturday on Broken Bow Lake.

A percentage from the tournament entry fees will go to the Ronald McDonald House Charities. First place pays $5,000, and the second place finisher will receive a new Hobie Outback. All fishing must be from a kayak, canoe or stand up paddleboar­d.

Turkey season opens Monday in southeast Oklahoma

Oklahoma’s spring turkey hunting season is already underway in most of the state, but Monday will be opening day in southeast Oklahoma. Turkey hunting season is shorter in eight southeaste­rn Oklahoma counties as state wildlife biologists continue to try and rebuild the population of the Eastern subspecies of wild turkeys which reside in the region.

Turkey season will remain open through May 6 statewide.
