GUTHRIE — “Let it rain.” Those were the last words Joseph William Angelo heard before a group of men opened fire on him just after midnight on April 5, a state investigator wrote in an affidavit. Angelo, who had been on the front porch of a home in the 300 block of S Oak Street, was shot 36 times.

Afterward, one of the men said “they had set a record for how many times a guy got shot,” the agent with the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation wrote in the affidavit.

Oklahoma City police made a fourth arrest Friday in Angelo’s shooting death. Bracey Jashawn Perry, 23, was taken into custody on a first-degree murder charge from Logan County. He remained in the Oklahoma County jail Monday afternoon, held without bail.

Once inside the jail,Perry threw up a hand sign associated with a local gang and told other inmates he was being booked on a murder charge, the arresting officer noted in his report.

“He announced this very loudly as though he was proud of it,” the officer wrote.

Officers responding to a shooting call just after midnight found Angelo, 24, of Edmond, on the front porch of the home. He was taken to a hospital, where he died from his wounds, police reported.

Three other men, Frederic Lavelle Veasley Jr., 29, Derrick Eugene Smith, 25, and Reggie Dewayne Smith, 37, also have been arrested and charged with first-degree murder.

Investigators interviewed Derrick Smith’s girlfriend, who was present the night of the shooting, and she told police she took the men to the house in Guthrie. She said once back in the vehicle, Derrick Smith told her the men approached the house, and Reggie Smith punched Angelo before stepping back and instructing the others to shoot him.

Perry was arrested in the backyard of a residence in northwest Oklahoma City, where investigators had set up surveillance, according to a police report. The resident of the home, Lydia Michelle Dixon, 38, was arrested on one complaint of harboring a fugitive.
