Moore student, teacher ‘come full circle’

MOORE — David Postic remembers the time nearly two decades ago when Robert Romines dressed up in a sumo suit and wrestled the principal at Red Oak Elementary.

Romines was a fifthgrade teacher; Postic was in the first or second grade.

“It was just the funniest thing,” Postic, an Oklahoma City attorney, recalled Tuesday. “I’m sure it is something he’s proud of.”

Romines, now the superintendent of Moore Public Schools, will be recognized Saturday in Tulsa by the Oklahoma Foundation for Excellence.

He is one of five Oklahoma educators who will be honored, along with 100 of the state’s top high school seniors.

Five of those seniors are from the Moore school district: Madelyn Haden (Moore High); Kevin Ngo and Charlotte Woods (Westmoore High); and Sarah Thai and Anhthu Ngoc Trinh (Southmoore High).

When Romines walks to the stage to receive his 2017 Medal for Excellence Award for elementary/ secondary administration, Postic will be there to greet him.

Postic, a 2009 AllState recipient from Westmoore High School, is one of five All-State alumni selected to present the Medal for Excellence winners.

At Red Oak, Romines got to know Postic through student council and Geography Bee, which Romines, a social studies teacher, supervised.

“His leadership and academic standing were two major highlights,” Romines recalled. “I think it’s great that we’ve come full circle.”
