The 28-year-old is also the favorite to win the NBA’s MVP award on June 26 in New York City.

Russell Westbrook won't know until next month if he'll take home the NBA’s most coveted postseason accolade.

But on Thursday, the MVP favorite picked up the first honor in recognition of his historic season, a spot on the AllNBA first team.

Westbrook was a firstteam selection on 99 of 100 ballots in the vote of sports writers and broadcasters and a secondteam choice on one ballot. He received 498 of a possible 500 points.

Houston’s James Harden was the only unanimous first-team selection. Cleveland forward LeBron James also was a first-teamer on 99 of 100 ballots. San Antonio forward Kawhi Leonard and New Orleans center Anthony Davis rounded out the first team.

Guards Isaiah Thomas of Boston and Stephen Curry of Golden State, center Rudy Gobert of Utah and forwards Kevin Durant of Golden State and Giannis Anteokounmpo of Milwaukee made second-team AllNBA.

Guards John Wall of Washington and DeMar DeRozan of Toronto, center DeAndre Jordan of the L.A. Clippers and forwards Draymond Green of Golden State and Jimmy Butler of Chicago made up the third team.

The first team selection hardly was a surprise for Westbrook, the second NBA player ever, and the first since Oscar Robertson in 1961-62, to average a triple double — double-digit points, rebounds and assists per game — for a full season.

He had 42 triple-double games, breaking Robertson’s single-season record of 41.

Westbrook averaged career highs in points (a league-leading 31.6) and rebounds (10.7), and tied his career-high average in assists (10.4).

It was the sixth AllNBA team of Westbrook's career and the second first-team selection. He made the first team last season and was a secondteam selection in 2011, 2012, 2013 and 2015.

The NBA will name its MVP winner — along with the winners of other top individual awards — on its first-ever awards show on June 26 in New York City. The league also will reveal the complete ballots of the 100 All-NBA voters on that day.
