Westmoore students earn scholarships
Westmoore High School graduates Britt Brown and Cale Francis received scholarships from Northern Oklahoma College to attend NOC Tonkawa in the fall.
son of Audra Brown, of Oklahoma City, was named a State Regents Academic Scholar, the highest honor awarded by the college to students who have demonstrated academic leadership in their high schools. He plans to major in general studies.
The State Regents Academic Scholarship, established by the state Legislature and governor in 1988 and operated by the Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education, offers a full tuition waiver, plus $900 a semester to cover all major expenses for four years or eight semesters, as long as the student attends an Oklahoma institution participating in the program, according to a news release.
Brown also will receive a Presidential Leadership Scholarship and will be a part of the President’s Leadership Council. The Presidential Leadership Scholarship in the amount of $24,120 for two years is applied toward tuition, fees, books, on-campus resident housing and a meal plan. Applicants must maintain at least a 3.25 GPA and enroll in 12 credit hours per semester in an associate degree program.
son of Charles and Cara Francis, of Oklahoma City, received an NOC Presidential Leadership Scholarship, an honor awarded to academic leaders.
At Westmoore, which is in the Moore school district, Francis was a member of the National Honor Society and played varsity baseball from 2015-2017. He played varsity football in 2015 and lettered in both sports. He will major in pre-medicine.
“These are extremely valuable and prestigious scholarships that provide funding for two years of college at Northern. It is a very competitive process to be selected,” said Cheryl Evans, president of NOC.
“In addition to having an outstanding academic record, the students must be active leaders in their schools and communities, and they must shine in a formal interview with the selection committee.”
