A former Oklahoma County jail nurse has been sentenced to eight years’ probation for smuggling cellphones into the facility.

Raini Rubottom, 25, of Wellston, also must pay a $1,000 fine.

Rubottom pleaded guilty Wednesday to a felony count of possession of contraband in a penal institution. Oklahoma County District Judge Timothy Henderson sentenced her according to a plea agreement.

Prosecutors alleged Rubottom, a “med passer” in the jail, delivered two cellphones to an inmate on March 8, 2016, while she was distributing medications.

During an ongoing contraband investigation at the jail, an investigator viewing surveillance video witnessed Rubottom spend three minutes at two cells, “which seemed like a lengthy amount of time to distribute meds,” authorities reported.

Investigators later searched the cells and found two cellphones and three vessels containing marijuana, a deputy sheriff reported in a court affidavit.

Rubottom confessed to delivering two cellphones to the inmate that day, according to the affidavit. She also admitted to bringing the inmate a cellphone about a month before, the deputy sheriff reported.

She said the inmate paid her $200 for delivering the first phone, according to the affidavit.

Rubottom was a certified medical assistant from May 2015 to March 2016 for the jail’s contracted medical provider, according to a spokeswoman.

In October, a fired detention officer and former jail nurse were charged in a plot to smuggle contraband to Oklahoma County inmates.

The fired officer,

Chelsye Renee Bacon, 26, of Midwest City, pleaded guilty in December to conspiring to bring cellphones and marijuana into the jail. As part of a plea agreement, she was sentenced to seven years’ probation.

The nurse, Kylie Morgan Greer, 25, of Choctaw, pleaded guilty in March to the same felony offense. She also accepted a plea deal and was sentenced to 10 years’ probation.

Prosecutors alleged both women conspired with murder defendant Prince Ordu and others in bringing contraband into the jail.

Bacon was a detention officer from August 2014 to May 2016.

Greer was a certified medical assistant from December 2013 to January 2016 for the jail’s contracted medical provider.
