Memorial Day weekend celebratio­n events planned across Oklahoma

A number of events and patriotic celebratio­ns are planned for Memorial Day weekend, May 27-29.

Oklahoma City

A Memorial Day celebratio­n will be held at the 45th Infantry Museum, 2145 NE 36, which will feature a ceremony to honor the men and women who have served in the U.S. Armed Forces and honor those who lost their lives serving their country. It will be held Monday at 10 a.m.

The 27th annual Chuck Wagon Festival will be held at the National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum on Saturday and Sunday. The event features campfire cooking, historical reenactors and a number of children’s activities. Festival hours are from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. both days.

The Paseo Arts Festival runs Saturday through Monday and features more than 90 artists selling their art from a variety of mediums, including paintings, photograph­y and jewelry. Dozens of live entertaine­rs will perform during the festival, which will also feature a children’s area and a number of food vendors. The Paseo Arts District is located between NW 30 and Dewey Avenue and NW 28 and Walker Avenue.

A Memorial Day celebratio­n is scheduled for Monday at the Memorial Park Funeral Home and Cemetery, 13313 N Kelley Ave. The event, which starts at 10 a.m., honors those who fought and died while serving in the U.S. Armed Forces.

On Monday, starting at 10:30 a.m., Memorial Day will be celebrated at the Union Soldiers Cemetery, at NE 36 and Martin Luther King Avenue. Members of Sallie Peacheater Tent 18 Daughters of Union Veterans of the Civil War, Jeremiah Smith Camp No.1 Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War, and 10th Kansas Infantry Re-enactors will provide the ceremony. The public is invited to attend.

Bethany

The annual Bethany 66 Festival will be held in downtown Bethany on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The family-friendly and patriotic event features an open-air tent where a number of performanc­es will be held throughout the day. Children are encouraged to dress up as their favorite princess or action hero for a special parade.

A car, truck and motorcycle show will be held and food trucks and pony rides will be available.

Moore

The Bruce January VFW Post 8706 and American Legion will hold their annual Memorial Day ceremony at Veterans Memorial Park, 1900 SE 4 St., on Monday at 10 a.m.

Rock the Park will take place Saturday from 6 to 10 p.m. at the Dr. Curtis Berry-Central Park, 700 S Broadway Ave. The family friendly-event will feature a concert by Superfreak and food trucks will be on site.

Norman

The 14th annual Norman Veterans Car Show will be held on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Norman Veterans Center, 1776 E Robinson St. The show benefits the Disabled Veterans of Norman and will feature a wide variety of classic and modern cars.

Yukon

Veterans will be honored at the Yukon Cemetery, 660 Garth Brooks Boulevard, on Memorial Day at 11 a.m. Refreshmen­ts will be served after the ceremony at the Yukon Veterans Museum, 1010 W Main St.

Boley

Boley’s annual rodeo and barbecue will be held from Friday through Sunday.

Visitors are encouraged to bring their own lawn chairs at the Boley school stadium at 6 p.m. on Friday for family fun. A parade is scheduled for 3 p.m. on Saturday and a barbecue cook-off will be held afterward.

Clinton

The Clinton Route 66 Festival will be held on Saturday in downtown Clinton. The festival will feature a car show, wiener dog race, hot dog eating contest and a talent show.

Hobart

On Friday and Saturday, the Gen. Tommy Franks Leadership Institute and Museum, along with the Hobart community, will host the 9th annual Celebratio­n of Freedom. The event will feature carnival rides, a children’s pageant and food and craft vendors.

Fort Cobb

A Memorial Day celebratio­n is planned for Saturday from 6 to 10 p.m. The event will feature classic rock and blues from the Rusty Traywick Band at Bandana Rick’s. Food and drinks will also be available.

Lake Eufaula

From Friday to Monday, Lake Eufaula State Park will host Memorial Day events.

A number of naturethem­ed events are planned over the weekend, including a leaf scavenger hunt and make-and-take activities, such as making your own bird feeders and soapmaking.

Pryor

Dozens of bands, including Def Leppard, The Offspring, and others will perform during the annual Rocklahoma music festival north of Pryor. The festival takes place from Friday through Sunday. For more informatio­n, go to rocklahoma.com
