Poker run to honor fallen Marine
Honoring America’s Warriors will hold “Doc Warren’s Ride to Remember,” a poker run and ridealong to honor Oklahoma service members.
The starting point is at Harley Davidson World. Registration is at 9 a.m. Saturday, and kickstands up at 10:30 a.m.
The path will take riders to the Oklahoma Veterans Memorial across from the state Capitol, then to Rosehill Burial Park, where an honor guard will provide flags for riders to place at headstones of interred veterans. The route will continue to the Oklahoma 45th Infantry Division Museum, with the final stop at Margarita Island.
Gold Star Mom Donna Warren and husband Marvin, of Shawnee, lost their son, Eric “Doc” Warren, who was serving his third tour in Afghanistan when he was killed on May 26, 2012.
“Eric fought beside his Marines and then fixed them up when they were injured; he saved many lives and limbs,” Donna Warren said.
“He and the squad were clearing a mosque of explosives when he heard someone call for help outside. He immediately left the cover of the mosque to go help, and that’s when he triggered the IED.”
Warren received the Purple Heart posthumously. Marines Eric served with will come from across the country to join the remembrance of his life, according to a news release.
Registration is $30 for a single rider and $50 for doubles. The first 100 registered will receive a T-shirt and dog tags. There will be prizes and raffle items.
