Getting to know Auburn

About the Tigers:

The No. 7-seed Tigers are on the cusp of a 50-win season that includes a 17-7 finish in SEC play. Auburn entered postseason play outscoring its last 10 regular season opponents 41-21. This is only the third time Auburn has advanced to the Super Regionals. As a staff, Auburn’s pitchers have a combined 1.64 ERA, good for 13th-best in the country. The Tigers are also the nation’s top team at turning double plays, making 47 through 59 games.

•In the circle: Junior Kaylee Carlson and sophomore Makayla Martin shoulder most of the pitching load for the Tigers, each posting at least 148 innings pitched this year. Carlson holds a 1.22 ERA while Martin has a 1.89.

•At the plate: Freshman Alyssa Rivera leads the Tigers with a .381 batting average, but junior Carlee Wallace tops the team in RBI with a whopping 52 on the season. Meanwhile, sophomore Kendall Veach is the Tigers’ best power hitter with 12 home runs on the year.

•The series: The Sooners have plenty of recent history with Auburn. OU opened the 2017 season against Auburn, dropping that game 3-2. Before that, the Sooners topped the Tigers in the College World Series for the national championship. In that series, OU won two of three games, including a 2-1 final game for the crown.
