Gasso mum on Game 2 starter

- FOR THE OKLAHOMAN

After a dominant performance in Game 1, will Oklahoma ace get the ball again Saturday with a chance to close out the series?

That, according to Parker and Oklahoma coach

is still to be determined.

“I have the utmost confidence in our pitching staff, so whatever Coach needs is what we’ll come out with,” Parker said after the Sooners’ 4-0 win Friday afternoon over Auburn.

Gasso turned to Parker and whispered an approving message.

“Good answer,” the coach said.

Dating back to last season, Parker has allowed just three earned runs and 13 hits in 21 innings against Auburn. Oklahoma did not use

or its two other regular starters, in Friday’s game, so both are fresh for Game 2.

“I don’t know yet,” Gasso said of Saturday’s starter. “We’ve got a staff, which is new, so we’ll see.”

Pendley delivers big hit

Outfielder came to the plate in the first inning Friday with a chance to give OU some early cushion in Game 1.

She failed to do so, flying out to right-center field, but Pendley later made up for it by delivering the hit that gave Oklahoma the lead in the sixth inning. With two runners on base, Pendley launched a ground-rule double over the head of Auburn left fielder

to break the scoreless tie.

“We all have a point when we have to pick each other up,” Pendley said. “... One of them picked me up after the first inning, and I picked them back up. It’s a good feeling.”

Crowd no bother to Sooners

The 2,477 fans at Jane B. Moore Field on Friday afternoon made Auburn’s Game 1 matchup with Oklahoma the most-attended single game in program history. OU first baseman

took notice of the crowd, but she said it didn’t faze the Sooners.

“They were loud, I’m not going to lie, but I think we kind of made sure that we stayed with each other and didn’t really look out and see what was going on in the outfield or in the crowd,” Knighten said. “It was just more focusing on our team and focusing on the little things and executing our game plan.”
